Pre-Holi Skincare Guide: Protecting Your Skin from Harmful Colors

Pre-Holi Skincare Guide: Protecting Your Skin from Harmful Colors

Holi, the festival of colors, is the happiest time to smile, laugh, and celebrate. But synthetic colors used in Holi may sometimes be harsh on the skin and lead to dryness, irritation, or allergies. Here’s a pre-Holi skincare guide via Paradise Tree to keep your skin healthy and glowing after the festivities. Hence, one should play safely.

1. Moisturization and Formation of a Protective Barrier

Apply generous amounts of the following before stepping out to play Holi. Coconut oil, almond oil, or mustard oil will help create a thin coating over your skin, preventing the color from sticking and making it easier to wash off.

Pro Tip: You could go the route of a thicker moisturizer or sunscreen with SPF 30+ to keep your skin hydrated and secured against UV rays.

2. Layer Up

Wearing full-sleeved cotton clothes can minimize direct contact with harmful chemicals. Cotton is breathable, reduces irritation, and keeps you comfortable during the revelry.

Bonus Tip: Dark-colored clothes can divert attention away from stubborn color stains!

3. Hydrate Yourself Inside and Out

Healthy skin comes from inside! Drink a lot of water, coconut water, and fresh fruit juices before Holi so that your skin is well hydrated and less irritated.

Must Have: A hydrating serum or aloe vera gel should be applied before going outdoors.

4. Natural Protection for Your Face

Use a homemade face mask for added protection instead of exposing the face directly to colors:

For dry skin: Use honey and yogurt face mask before playing.
For oily skin: Apply multani mitti mixed with rose water to control greasiness.
For sensitive skin: Rub a thin coating of aloe vera gel all over the face; it will cool and soothe and protect too.

5. Don't Forget Your Hair

Colors may be hard and stiff on hair, so use coconut oil or leave-in conditioner to make a protective coating. You can also tie hair in a braid or bun and wear a scarf or cap for an extra defense.

Quick Hack: Use lemon juice and water to rinse your hair after Holi to get rid of color residue naturally.

6. Protect Your Nails & Lips

- Nails: Coat the nails with dark nail polish to prevent staining from the color.
- Lips: Apply thick lip balm or petroleum jelly so that the lips do not lose moisture.

7. Choose Organic or Herbal Colors

Traditional Holi colors usually have chemicals which can affect the skin. Choose organic, herbal, or yourself-made natural colors with turmeric, beetroot, or flower petals to have a skin-friendly Holi!
